Thanks a bunch. I remember entomology only for its anecdotes. I watched a grasshopper the other day (it was huge and looked like a leaf). His middle seemed to rise and fall just like he was breathing, but I couldn't quite remember how they took in air. I knew it was necessary to survive, but there are no gills or lungs. My education is shockingly lacking.
Thanks for pointing this out! I don't think our book about bugs discusses this, so I should be sure to explain it to my boys so they aren't still wondering this 30 years from now. :-)
